Project Status: Ongoing
Visitors observations of grizzly bear and black bear activity provide park managers with important information that is used to reduce and prevent bear-human conflicts, bear-caused property damages, and bear-inflicted human injuries. Bear sighting reports are also used for monitoring the grizzly bear population. For your safety and the safety of other visitors, please report your bear sightings while in the park.
2008 Bear Sightings by Districta

a Calendar year as of December 31, 2008. Includes reports of sightings and sign reported to the Bear Management Office.
b Each group of bear observed together was recorded as one bear sighting. The number of bear sightings reported each year is dependent upon park visitation, observer effort, the number of ongoing bear related research projects, availability of preferred bear foods, weather patterns, and other factors. Multiple reports obviously representing the same bear on the same day were recorded as one sighting.
c Includes tracks, scat, day beds, den sites, rub trees and feeding sites.
