Project Type:  Management Action
Project Status:  Ongoing

Bear management actions are those in which park staff respond to bear activity to prevent bear–human conflicts. This includes monitoring roadside bear jams; hazing bears away from roads and developed areas; posting warning signs about bear activity; temporarily closing trails, campsites, or other public areas because of bear activity; and capturing bears that have been involved in conflicts to radio-collar, relocate, or euthanize them. Blood and hair samples are collected from captured bears to monitor genetic diversity as well as disease presence and trends.
