Bat Inventory of the Greater Yellowstone Network

Project Type:  Inventory
Project Status:  Completed

An inventory of bats in the Greater Yellowstone Network was conducted in 2004. The survey was conducted as part of the National Park Service Inventory and Monitoring Program and documented at least 90% of bat species occurring in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Grand Teton National Park, and Yellowstone National Park. Habitat suitability models were created to identify critical habitat where mist nets, acoustic bat detectors, and harp traps were used to survey species. The survey documented distribution relative abundance of species of special concern, and provides a baseline of information needed to develop a general monitoring strategy.
