Amphibian Monitoring in Areas Selected for Trout Restoration
Project Status: Ongoing
Restoration of fluvial populations of native trout in Yellowstone National Park is a high priority for Fisheries and Aquatic Section staff. Some restoration practices involve the application of an approved piscicide to remove non-native fish. Piscicides, however, can sometimes have a short-term, negative effect on non-target animals such as larval amphibians and aquatic invertebrates. The purpose of our amphibian monitoring program is to document the presence, distribution, and breeding sites of amphibian in areas selected for fish restoration. Follow-up monitoring will examine the long-term effects of fish restoration on amphibians populations in Yellowstone National Park.
