Amphibian Monitoring in Grand Teton and Yellowstone
Project Status: Ongoing
Amphibian decline has been recognized as a global issue since the meeting of the First World Congress of Herpetology in England in 1989. More recent assessments have confirmed these declines and have further shown that amphibians are more threatened than either birds or mammals and that the western U.S. is one of the hotspots for decline. This project is part of a collaborative effort among the National Park Service, Idaho State University, and the Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative (ARMI), administered by the U.S. Geological Survey. The purpose is to determine the status and trends of amphibian populations within the Rocky Mountain Region.
