Paleontology
Fossil plants, invertebrates, vertebrates and trace fossils have been discovered in Yellowstone from more than 20 stratigraphic units spanning 500 million years, from the Cambrian to the Holocene. Best known are the fossil forests of the northwest end of Specimen Ridge.
